Company’s name “Toona” is derived from a particular type of tree known as “Red Cedar” whose stems and leaves are used in traditional medicine to treat dysentery, enteritis, and itchiness. It is also used as a carminative. The root of this tree is used as something that is used to counteract or correct harmful side-effects of other ingredients commonly used in Ayurveda. The bark is used as an astringent and also has purifying properties. Whilst the fruit of such a tree is used as an astringent for eye infection.
To summarise, our company like the tree itself aims to have many numerous functions it does such as, to have a low carbon footprint, to try and solve the unemployment as well poverty issues through employment, of very low to no wastage of materials being sold and used by other textile or fabric industries like rug and mat industries and various other industries that put the trimmings, linings and other generally “discarded” by-products of manufacturing that often otherwise make it into the landfill and cause solid waste pollution. Here in Toona, we do not believe in “waste” to be something that should exist since everything has uses material-wise. Our socks have numerous other uses in them even after being put to good use.
